How Often Should I Change My Dermaroller?

How Often Should I Change My Dermaroller?

IN THIS ARTICLE:

Ever wondered what sticking needles into your skin feels like? Surprisingly, this seemingly intimidating skin treatment holds a wealth of amazing anti-aging benefits. But here's the thing: even the simplest beauty tools, like a derma roller, require proper cleaning and maintenance. A tool that everyone should have in their beauty arsenal, read on to find out how it works.

1. What is Derma rolling?

You’ve probably heard of Microneedling, a celebrity-preferred skin treatment that effectively addresses common skin issues and improves overall complexion. Although it can have dramatic results it’s side effects include pain and bleeding.

Microneedling and derma rolling are two similar procedures that involve using a tool equipped with tiny needles to create minuscule injuries on the skin. While the main difference lies in the technique, tools, and settings used, at-home derma rolling is more affordable.

Derma rolling relies solely on the derma roller tool to create small wounds on the skin. Although it may not penetrate as deeply as microneedling, consistent use of derma rolling can give your skin a healthy boost.

2. What are the benefits of derma rolling?

By using a derma roller on your skin, you create small wounds that signal the body to initiate a crucial repair process, the natural healing process. For repair, the body uses structural proteins like collagen and elastin, which are responsible for the anti-aging effects of microneedling. Here are some of the benefits of using a micro derma roller:

When you use a derma roller on your skin, you're actually triggering a powerful repair process that mimics your body's natural healing mechanism. These tiny wounds send a signal to your body, prompting it to kickstart the vital repair journey. And here's where the real magic happens – your body utilizes structural proteins like collagen and elastin to carry out this repair work, resulting in astonishing anti-aging effects that go beyond imagination.

The wonders of using a micro derma roller don't stop there:

  • Smoothed wrinkles and fine lines
  • Diminished scars and stretch marks
  • Enhanced skin tone
  • Stimulates hair growth

For optimal results, it's suggested to have a treatment period of five consecutive days, followed by a five-day break to give your skin time to rest. Once your skin has fully recovered, you can start a new cycle. This pattern of five days on and five days off should be maintained for two months. Remember to replace your derma roller every three months.

Potential post-treatment side effects may include minor redness and irritation. Don’t be alarmed as these usually go away in a few days. To prevent adverse effects, make sure to clean and disinfect your roller after each use.

Taking derma roller before and after photos can be a great way to see the progress you're making. Its full effects on skin should be noticeable around 30 to 40 days - which is the time it takes for a complete skin cell turnover. Some may notice immediate improvements in as little as two weeks, like softer and smoother skin that responds better to products.

3. How to do derma rolling at home?

Ready to derma roll at home? Here are some essential tips to make your treatments more effective and maximize those incredible results:

  1. Start with a clean face - To ensure better skin penetration, always begin with a freshly cleansed face

2. Use serum - Boost the benefits of derma rolling by applying a layer of serum before and after the treatment. Hyaluronic acid is a great choice as it helps hydrate and plump the skin, enhancing the overall effectiveness.

3. Timing is everything - Be mindful of strong active ingredients like retinol and vitamin C. These can increase sensitivity, so it's best to save them for your off days when you're not planning a derma rolling session.

4. Gentle pressure - When rolling, apply only the amount of pressure that feels comfortable for you. Remember, it's not about how hard you press, but the consistency and regularity of your treatments for the best results.

5. Delicate areas require extra care - Avoid rolling over your eyelids and take extra caution when treating the lip and under eye areas.

6. Keep it clean - After each use, don't forget to disinfect your derma roller. A quick spray with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol will help keep it clean and ready for your next session.

4. How often should you change your derma roller?

You should change your derma roller after three to four months of regular use. Why should you do this? The steel or titanium microneedles can bend and rust which can potentially harm your skin. Do this to avoid the spread of infection, inflammation, pain, bleeding, bruising, discoloration, and many more adverse effects.

The Project E Beauty Derma Roller is perfectly set for micro exfoliation: equipped with 540 0.25mm-long microneedles made of high quality grade A titanium.
